The tour itself was fantastically planned, and our guide was one of the best I’ve ever had, with so much fascinating insight into local minority traditions. I’m only giving 4 stars because we traveled during the wet season and had unseasonably heavy rain that forced us to cancel two outdoor village visits, which was totally out of the tour team’s control.

We stayed in cozy family-run guesthouses in Lijiang’s Old Town, joined a traditional harvest feast with Yi villagers, and even got to try making traditional Dongba paper with a third-generation artisan. The itinerary included comfortable stops in Kunming and Xi’an as planned, and never felt overpacked even over 8 days.
