🌟 Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu
Today is your arrival day in Chengdu, the cozy, spicy food capital of Sichuan. After meeting your private driver at the airport or train station, you’ll be whisked directly to your city accommodation to settle in after your journey. 🌟 Day 2: Chengdu → Leshan → Mount Emei
Wake up to a filling western buffet breakfast before our first big adventure: a trip to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, where you’ll get unobstructed up-close views of fluffy giant pandas munching bamboo and rolling around their forest enclosures. After meeting these iconic locals, we drive to Leshan to visit the incredible 1,000-year-old Leshan Giant Buddha, carved into a cliffside above a river confluence. 🌟 Day 3: Mount Emei Exploration → Return to Chengdu
We start the day with another hearty western buffet breakfast before setting out to explore Mount Emei, one of China’s four great sacred Buddhist mountains. We’ll take a leisurely excursion through the mountain’s lush, misty forests, stopping to visit two of its most famous ancient temples: the scenic hillside Baoguo Temple and the historic 4th-century Wannian Temple. 🌟 Day 4: Chengdu → Huanglong → Jiuzhaigou

Our first stop is Huanglong National Scenic Reserve, famous for its cascading tiers of bright turquoise travertine pools set against the backdrop of snow-capped mountain peaks. We’ll spend the afternoon exploring the reserve’s gentle boardwalk trails, soaking in the otherworldly vibrant colors of the unique landscape. 🌟 Day 5: Full-Day Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park Tour

The valley is home to hundreds of crystal-clear alpine lakes, thundering cascading waterfalls, and dense primeval forests, with snow-capped peaks peeking over the treeline. We’ll use the park’s shuttle system to visit all the most iconic overlooks and spots, with plenty of time to stop for photos and soak in the quiet natural beauty at your own pace. I’ve done lots of private tours around the world, and this one stands out as one of the best organized I’ve ever booked. Our guide shared great local tips, including where to get authentic Sichuan hotpot in Chengdu that wasn’t crowded with tourists. Every day flowed smoothly, from our early panda visit to the scenic drives between attractions. Having a private tour meant we could stay as long as we wanted at each Jiuzhaigou overlook, no rushing to keep up with a group. This is the perfect way to see two of China’s most iconic attractions without the hassle of independent travel.

I worked with Ethan, a consultant from HelloChinaTrip, to tailor this tour for our family of four with young kids, and he adjusted the itinerary perfectly to fit our slower pace. We got to spend extra time watching the juvenile pandas at the Chengdu base, which was the highlight of our whole trip. Our guide got us early access to the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Center, when the pandas are most active and playful. Jiuzhaigou’s turquoise lakes and cascading waterfalls were even more stunning than I imagined, and the private car meant no waiting around for large groups.

The tour was perfectly organized from start to finish, and our guide and driver were both incredibly prompt and friendly. I’m only rating 4 stars because we traveled over the New Year holiday, so Jiuzhaigou was much more wonderful than we anticipated. This is still a fantastic tour, just avoid peak holiday periods if you can.
