The mix of modern Shanghai and ancient imperial capitals was such a thoughtful, enjoyable contrast. I loved getting to hike the Great Wall one day and stand among the Terracotta Warriors a few days later. Everything was organized perfectly, and local guides at each stop were friendly and very informative.

As a high school history teacher, I was blown away by how much depth this tour brought to the ancient Chinese history I teach my students. Datong’s Yungang Grottoes and Luoyang’s Longmen Grottoes were far more spectacular in person than any photo can capture, and our guide explained their cultural and religious context perfectly. We got to try so many amazing local dishes too, from Shanghai soup dumplings to Xi’an biang biang noodles. I left with a new appreciation for how thousands of years of Chinese history connect to the modern country today. I would recommend this tour to anyone who loves authentic history and culture over rushed tourist traps.

I’ve wanted to visit China for decades and this 12-day tour checked every box on my wishlist. We got to see the modern buzz of Shanghai, the grandeur of the Great Wall outside Beijing, the stunning Yungang Grottoes in Datong, Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, and the incredible Terracotta Army that I’d only seen in documentaries. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing little-known historical facts that made every site feel more alive. The itinerary flowed smoothly, with just enough downtime to rest and try local street food between activities. This is absolutely the best way to see all of China’s classic highlights in one trip.

I traveled solo on this tour and felt completely safe and welcome the entire time. The 12-day length was just right: not too short to rush through every site, and not too long that I got tired of moving between cities. Each destination offered something totally unique, from Shanghai’s glittering skyline to Xi’an’s 2,000-year-old warrior army. I got hundreds of great photos and tried so many new foods, I’m already planning my next trip back to China.
