Today we leave Lhasa and begin our overland journey west toward Shigatse, winding through the foothills of the Himalayas. Our first stop is 4,797-meter Kampala Pass, where you’ll get sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Next, we’ll stop to visit the stunning turquoise Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s three great sacred lakes. We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch with unbeatable lakeside views at Yamdrok Lake View Restaurant, featuring traditional Tibetan hot pot. Today we set off for the adventure of a lifetime: a night at Everest Base Camp! We’ll make a stop along the way at Rongbuk Monastery, the highest-altitude monastery in the world, which boasts front-row views of Everest’s rugged north face. After exploring the monastery, we’ll continue on to Everest Base Camp itself, where we’ll settle in for a one-of-a-kind night camping under the clear high-altitude stars at the foot of the world’s highest mountain. 🍽️ Breakfast included | 🏨 Overnight camping at Everest Base Camp Tent Camp
Wake up early for a chance to catch the iconic golden sunrise that paints Everest’s peak bright orange, then start our journey back east toward Shigatse. As someone who loves adventure but hates big crowded tours, this 8-day small group package was exactly what I was looking for. We got plenty of time to explore the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, with a guide who shared so much fascinating local history I’d never have learned on my own. The drive to Everest Base Camp was stunning, and our guide made sure we stopped regularly to stretch and acclimatize properly. I can’t imagine a better way to see the top highlights of Tibet, and I’ll definitely seek out small group tours like this again for future trips.

I absolutely loved exploring Lhasa and getting to see the base of Mount Everest in person, which was a lifelong dream come true. I’m giving four stars because we visited during a wonderful week in early spring, and cloud cover blocked our view of Everest for two full days we’d set aside for sightseeing. Our guide did everything possible to adjust the itinerary to give us the best chance of a clear view, but the weather just didn’t cooperate. The small group size and itinerary planning were still excellent, and I’d absolutely recommend this tour to anyone traveling in clearer weather months.

Watching the sun rise over Mount Everest from base camp is a memory I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. The itinerary was perfectly paced to help our group acclimatize to Tibet’s high altitude, so none of us got seriously ill.

Our small group size capped at 15 meant we never felt rushed or herded around like on overcrowded big bus tours. Our local guide knew all the best hidden viewpoints to catch Everest unobscured, and the accommodation in Lhasa was comfortable and perfectly positioned for exploring early in the trip.
