This well-paced tour let me experience the best of Tibet and stand at Everest Base Camp without any stress.
This 8-day Tibet adventure starts in Lhasa, guiding you through stunning high-altitude destinations including Gyantse, Shigatse, and the iconic North Everest Base Camp (EBC), letting you experience both timeless Tibetan culture and breathtaking Himalayan scenery all in one trip. Curated as a top choice for travelers exploring Tibet’s most iconic landmarks, this tour delivers excellent value for money, with trusted, secure payment processes to ensure a smooth, hassle-free booking experience from start to finish.

This 8-day immersive journey kicks off in Lhasa, Tibet’s ancient cultural heart, where you’ll acclimatize to the high altitude and explore centuries of Buddhist heritage before winding west through the historic towns of Gyantse and Shigatse, all the way up to the remote northern Everest Base Camp. The route balances iconic cultural landmarks and once-in-a-lifetime natural wonders, taking you past gilded monasteries, rushing glacial rivers, and snow-dusted Himalayan peaks before returning to Lhasa for departure, ideal for first-time Tibet visitors and adventure lovers alike.
Once you arrive by plane or train in Lhasa, we’ll meet you and transfer you straight to your hotel to help you settle in and acclimatize. Along the way, you’ll get your first breathtaking glimpses of two of Tibet’s most famous waterways: the mighty Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River and the scenic Lhasa River. If you’re feeling energized after your journey, you can take an optional leisurely stroll around Potala Square to snap your first photos of the iconic palace before your full sightseeing begins.
Today dives deep into Lhasa’s most iconic cultural sites. We start with a guided tour inside the world-famous Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama, where your guide will walk you through its ornate chapels, ancient artifacts, and centuries of history, plus treat you to sweeping views over Lhasa. Next, we visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, the holiest site in Tibetan Buddhism, to explore its ancient shrines and rare religious art. We wrap up the day wandering bustling Barkhor Street, where you can join local pilgrims for a traditional kora (circumambulation) walk and browse handcrafted Tibetan souvenirs.
Today we explore three of Lhasa’s most important historic Buddhist monasteries. We kick off with a guided tour of sprawling Drepung Monastery, once the largest Buddhist monastery in the world, before stopping to take in panoramic views of the striking Ganden Palace set within the monastery grounds. Next we head to Sera Monastery, where the day’s biggest highlight awaits: between 3pm and 5pm, you can watch the famous daily monk debate session, where monks gather in the courtyard to engage in lively, ritualized philosophical discussions about Buddhist teachings.
Today we leave Lhasa behind and drive west toward Shigatse, stopping at one jaw-dropping vista after another along the way. First we cross the scenic Gampala Pass, where you can snap panoramic photos of the surrounding Himalayan landscape before catching your first view of brilliant turquoise Yamdrok-tso Lake, one of Tibet’s three great sacred lakes. You’ll also get a front-row view of snow-capped Mount Nyenchen Khangsar along the drive. When we reach Gyantse, we stop to tour the historic Pelkor Monastery, famous for its one-of-a-kind multi-colored pagoda, before continuing on to Shigatse for the night.
Today we continue our journey toward Everest, starting with processing your required Alien’s Travel Permit for access to this remote protected region. Next we cross the dramatic Pang La Pass, sitting 5050 meters above sea level, which is one of the best vantage points for mountain viewing in the entire Himalayas. From the top of the pass, you’ll get an unbeatable panoramic view of five of the world’s highest peaks, and if the weather is clear, you’ll get your first awe-inspiring glimpse of snow-capped Mount Everest before descending to your overnight stay in Rongbuk.
Today brings the most anticipated highlight of your entire trip: we set out early to catch a breathtaking sunrise over Mount Everest, where the first light of day turns the snow-capped peak brilliant gold. After taking in this unforgettable natural spectacle, we visit the northern Everest Base Camp itself, where you can stand at the foot of the world’s highest peak. To wrap up the day, we tour the historic Rongphu Monastery, the highest-altitude monastery on Earth, tucked right in the shadow of Everest.
Today we begin our journey back to Lhasa, driving along the banks of the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River for the entire trip. You’ll have plenty of time to relive your Everest memories, soak in the ever-changing high-altitude landscapes, and stop for photos of the river as we make our way back to Lhasa for the night.
Your Tibetan adventure comes to a close today. After enjoying a hearty included breakfast 🍽️ at your hotel, we’ll transfer you straight to Lhasa Airport for your departure flight.

This 8-day adventure balances rich cultural exploration in Lhasa, Gyantse, and Shigatse perfectly with the epic finale at North Everest Base Camp. I was worried about altitude sickness as a casual hiker, but our guide’s constant check-ins and the slow itinerary pace meant I was able to enjoy every moment. The local food we tried along the route was delicious, and accommodations were cozy and comfortable for a high-altitude region. If you’re ready to check Tibet and Everest off your bucket list, this is the tour to book.

I was super nervous about booking a Tibet tour as a solo female traveler, but my consultant Ethan from HelloChinaTrip answered every question before departure, and the trip itself exceeded every expectation. We stopped at cozy local tea houses in Gyantse I never would have found on my own, and waking up to see Everest’s golden sunrise at North EBC is a moment I’ll never forget. All permits were handled smoothly, and the itinerary was paced perfectly for altitude acclimatization. This is the best planned adventure tour I’ve ever joined, and I can’t recommend it enough.

The view of Everest from North Base Camp was even more incredible than I imagined, but I traveled during peak spring season so the site was much more wonderful than expected. The tour itinerary and guidance were perfect, just plan for larger groups if you book a May departure.
