This 6-day curated journey begins in dynamic Beijing, where you’ll dive into thousands of years of Chinese imperial history, wander world-famous landmarks, and experience everyday local life before traveling to ancient Xi'an. You’ll tick off iconic sites from the Forbidden City to the Mutianyu Great Wall in Beijing, then uncover millennia-old archaeological treasures including the world-famous Terracotta Army in Xi'an, with every detail planned for a stress-free, personal travel experience.
Today marks your arrival in bustling Beijing! After checking in, you can unwind and get settled at your pre-booked accommodation — you’ll have your choice of either Howard Johnson Paragon Hotel or Hotel New Otani Chang Fu Gong, both in convenient central locations. Take the rest of the day to adjust to your new time zone and explore the surrounding neighborhood at your leisure. 🏨 Overnight at your chosen Beijing hotel.
Kick off your first full day of exploration with a leisurely stroll across open, historic Tiananmen Square, the symbolic heart of modern China. Next, step inside the sprawling Forbidden City, the exclusive imperial residence of Chinese emperors for over 500 years, to admire its ornate palaces and centuries of history. After that, visit the atmospheric Yonghe Lamasery (Lama Temple), a working Tibetan Buddhist temple filled with stunning religious art and architecture. End your day at the leafy Temple of Heaven, where ancient emperors once held ceremonies to pray for bountiful harvests. 🍽️ Included today: a hearty Western buffet breakfast. 🏨 Overnight at your Beijing hotel.
Today you’ll visit the iconic Great Wall of China at the scenic, less crowded Mutianyu section, with a round-trip cable car included to make your visit comfortable and accessible. Hike along the ancient fortifications at your own pace and take in sweeping views of the wall snaking across forested hills. On your way back to central Beijing, stop for a photo op outside the iconic Olympic National Stadium, better known as the Bird’s Nest. End your day with an authentic local experience: a leisurely ride through old Beijing’s traditional hutong alleyways on a classic wooden rickshaw, plus a warm visit to a local family’s home to get a peek into everyday Beijing life. 🍽️ Included today: Western buffet breakfast and a delicious lunch. 🏨 Overnight at your Beijing hotel.
Before departing Beijing for Xi'an, squeeze in one more iconic imperial site: the Summer Palace, the lush lakeside retreat where Qing Dynasty emperors escaped the summer heat. Wander its ornate pavilions, cross the famous Seventeen Arch Bridge, and stroll through its beautifully landscaped gardens. After your visit, you’ll travel to Xi'an, the ancient capital of China and starting point of the Silk Road, and check in to your Xi'an accommodation (your choice of Somerset Xindicheng Xi'an or Wyndham Grand Xian South). 🍽️ Included today: Western buffet breakfast. 🏨 Overnight at your chosen Xi'an hotel.
Spend the day diving deep into Xi'an's 3,000 years of history, starting with the world-famous Terracotta Army Museum. Explore the 2,000-year-old tomb complex of Emperor Qin Shi Huang and marvel at thousands of life-sized clay warriors, each with unique facial features, built to guard the emperor in the afterlife. Back in central Xi'an, visit the tranquil ancient Small Wild Goose Pagoda, a Tang Dynasty Buddhist landmark that still holds original ancient artifacts. Next, explore the Xi'an Museum to learn more about the region's rich cultural and archaeological history, before ending your day on the remarkably intact Xi'an City Wall — one of the largest preserved ancient city walls in the world, where you can walk or cycle along the top for panoramic city views. 🍽️ Included today: Western buffet breakfast and lunch. 🏨 Overnight at your Xi'an hotel.
On your final day of the tour, visit the Han Yang Ling Museum, the mausoleum of Han Dynasty Emperor Jing, famous for its thousands of delicate miniature clay figures and innovative modern museum design that lets you walk directly over the ancient excavation pits. After exploring this incredible archaeological site, your 6-day tour comes to an end. 🍽️ Included today: Western buffet breakfast.

As a cultural explorer who’s traveled to 20+ countries, this tour stands out as one of the best organized I’ve ever joined. The balance between Beijing’s imperial sites and Xi'an’s ancient Terracotta Warriors was perfectly paced over 6 days, so we never felt rushed from one place to the next. Our guides were all fluent in English, happy to answer any question we had, and really passionate about sharing their local history. I can’t recommend this private tour enough to anyone considering their first trip to China.

The all-inclusive nature of this trip made everything so easy, from the moment we landed in Beijing to when we departed Xi'an. The food included was all delicious local specialties, not the generic tourist food I was worried about. I loved that it was private so we could go at our own pace instead of keeping up with a big group.

Ethan, our consultant from HelloChinaTrip, helped me tweak the itinerary to fit my interest in traditional Chinese architecture, and it turned out perfectly. I got to spend extra time exploring the hidden courtyards of the Forbidden City instead of rushing through, and the Xi'an city wall bike ride was an amazing surprise add-on. Every transfer between cities and hotels was handled seamlessly, so I never felt lost or confused as a solo traveler. This tour is ideal for anyone who wants a relaxed, personalized introduction to two of China’s most iconic historic cities.

The tour itself was beautifully organized and our guides were incredibly knowledgeable. We traveled during the first week of October, which turned out to be peak travel season, so all the major sites were much more wonderful than we expected. This wasn’t the tour operator’s fault at all, but it did knock one star off our experience.

I went on this tour with my teenage kids who love history, and it was a hit for all of us. We got to customize the itinerary a little to add extra time at the Beijing Capital Museum, which the team accommodated easily. Our drivers were always on time, and the guides shared so many fun little stories behind the Forbidden City and Terracotta Army that brought everything to life. This all-inclusive package is 100% worth the price, I’d recommend it to any family or cultural traveler.

As a first-time visitor to China, I couldn’t have asked for a better itinerary. Our private guide in Beijing knew all the best spots to avoid big lines, and the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an were even more breathtaking than I imagined. All meals and entrance fees were included, so we never had to worry about extra hidden costs.
