Explore the stunning natural and cultural gems of southwest China’s Yunnan on this 7-day light hiking mini-group tour, which takes you through beloved destinations including Dali, Xizhou, Lijiang, and scenic Shangri-La. Perfect for casual outdoor lovers who prefer relaxed exploration over strenuous climbs, this intimate small-group itinerary delivers curated, memorable experiences, with unbeatable value, guaranteed best pricing, and secure trusted payment options for stress-free trip planning.

This 7-day adventure winds through the diverse, breathtaking landscapes of Yunnan province in southwest China, starting with the laid-back lakeside charm of Dali, moving north to the misty, Tibetan-infused highlands of Shangri-La, tracing the roaring Jinsha River through the dramatic gorges of Tiger Leaping Gorge, and ending at the foot of the iconic snow-capped Jade Dragon Mountain in Lijiang. Designed for outdoor lovers who prefer gentle activity over intense trekking, this route balances leisurely hiking, cultural deep dives, and postcard-perfect views to show off the very best of Yunnan’s natural and cultural magic.
Today is your arrival day in Dali! Once you touch down and complete travel check-in, you can head to your accommodation to settle in at your own pace, with no scheduled activities to rush through. Spend the rest of the day wandering nearby streets, trying local Yunnan snacks, or resting up after your journey to prepare for the adventure ahead. 🏨 Accommodation is provided in Dali.
Kick off your first full day of exploration with a delicious local breakfast 🍽️. First, you’ll head to the historic Bai ethnic town of Xizhou for a traditional three-course tea ceremony, where you’ll learn about local hospitality culture while sipping fragrant, homemade teas. Next, travel to Zhoucheng Village, the heart of Yunnan’s centuries-old tie-dye craft, where you’ll get a workshop tour and make your very own custom tie-dye piece to take home as a souvenir. After that, you’ll cruise along the picture-perfect shores of Erhai Lake on an eco-friendly electric cart, stopping to admire the lake’s clear blue waters and distant views of Cangshan Mountain. As evening falls, you’ll wander the atmospheric cobblestone lanes of Dali Ancient Town, browsing handicraft shops and soaking up the lively local vibe before returning to your hotel 🏨 for the night.
Start your day with a filling breakfast 🍽️ before departing Dali for the highland wilderness of Shangri-La. Your first stop here is Potatso National Park, where you’ll walk through lush old-growth forests and past sparkling alpine lakes, breathing in the crisp, clean mountain air. In the afternoon, you’ll explore Dukezong Ancient Town, a beautifully preserved Tibetan old town lined with traditional wooden buildings. Climb up to Guishan Hill Park to see the massive Grand Prayer Wheel, one of the largest functioning prayer wheels in the world, and enjoy a sweeping panoramic view of the entire city of Shangri-La from the hilltop. You’ll stay overnight in a local Shangri-La hotel 🏨.
After a morning breakfast 🍽️, you’ll visit the iconic Songzanlin Monastery, a grand Tibetan Buddhist monastery perched on a hillside often nicknamed the “Little Potala Palace” for its stunning, palace-like architecture. After exploring the temple grounds and learning about local Tibetan Buddhist culture, you’ll travel to world-famous Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest and most dramatic river canyons on Earth. You’ll explore the Upper Gorge section, then take a gentle stroll along the stone trail that traces the banks of the roaring Jinsha River, listening to the thunder of the rapids and admiring the steep cliff walls that rise up on either side. You’ll stay overnight near the gorge 🏨, ready for tomorrow’s hike.
Fuel up with a hearty breakfast 🍽️ this morning before setting off on your gentle light hike along the iconic Tiger Leaping Gorge trail. Today’s route stretches from Tina’s Guesthouse to Halfway Guesthouse, a popular, low-intensity stretch that offers unbeatable views of the gorge and river without the steep climbs of longer treks. After finishing your hike, you’ll travel south to Lijiang, where you’ll check into your hotel and relax after your day outdoors 🏨.
Wake up to a tasty breakfast 🍽️ before heading out to explore Lijiang’s most famous attraction: Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Scenic Area. First, you’ll stop at the wide, open grasslands of Ganhaizi Meadow, where you can enjoy unobstructed front-row views of the snow-capped peak against the clear blue sky. Next, you’ll hop on a sightseeing bus that winds through the otherworldly turquoise waters of Blue Moon Valley, past the scenic Baishuihe River, with plenty of chances to stop and snap photos of the stunning alpine scenery. End your day with a scenic chairlift ride up to Glacier Park, where you can get up close to the ancient glacial ice at the top of the mountain. You’ll return to your Lijiang hotel 🏨 for the night.
Enjoy your final included breakfast 🍽️ on the last day of your tour, before you prepare for departure from Lijiang. Your Yunnan adventure comes to a close here, with memories of stunning landscapes and warm local culture to take home with you.

If you’re torn between a large crowded group tour and an expensive private trip, this mini group option is the perfect middle ground. We got to see all the iconic spots plus some hidden natural views I never would have found on my own traveling around Yunnan.

Lijiang’s old town at sunset was the highlight of my entire trip, and the light hike to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain overlook was easier than I expected. The mini group size meant we got to chat with locals and stop for photos whenever we wanted without holding anyone up.

As someone who loves both nature and local culture, this tour checked every box for me. We wandered the ancient cobblestone streets of Lijiang’s old town, hiked through rolling wildflower hills outside Dali, and even got to visit a local Naxi family’s home for tea in Shangri-La. The itinerary was paced perfectly, with enough free time to explore on our own after each guided activity. The scenery was even more stunning than the photos I’d seen online, and I left already wanting to come back next year.

Every stop from Dali to Shangri-La felt thoughtfully planned and genuinely enjoyable.

I was nervous about booking a group tour to China for the first time, but HelloChinaTrip’s consultant Lynn answered all my random questions before I even booked, and the tour itself was just as well-organized. The light hiking was perfect for casual travelers—nothing too strenuous, but enough to get off the beaten path away from the main tourist crowds in the big towns. I loved getting to try local Yunnan coffee in Xizhou and yak butter tea in Shangri-La, all arranged seamlessly by the tour team. I’m already planning my next trip to China with this company, and I can’t recommend this Yunnan tour enough to anyone on the fence.

We had an amazing time exploring all the gems of Yunnan on this tour. The hiking was perfectly light, doable even for someone like me who doesn’t hike regularly, and the cultural stops in Dali and Lijiang gave me so much insight into local life. Unfortunately, we had unseasonably heavy rain on two of our hiking days that cut our time on the trails a bit shorter than planned. Even so, it was still a fantastic trip that I’d recommend to anyone looking to see the best of southwest China.

The views from the hikes around Lijiang and Dali were absolutely breathtaking. I loved how small the group was, it never felt crowded and we got to take our time at every cultural stop. The mix of nature and old towns like Xizhou was perfectly balanced.
